Abstract

Abstract

Turkey has substantially been supplying energy from abroad. In this context, Turkey is dependent on foreign sources. Approximately 25 % of Turkey’s total import consists of energy costs. The fact that energy is a source of input for production reveals the economic importance. The increase in energy costs is directly related to the price of goods and services. Therefore, if energy prices rise, the general level of price will also increase. Thus, the inflation will be inevitable. In this study, it was aimed to emphasize the importance of energy in terms of economic activities and to prevent inflation some possible solutions on behalf of reducing costs were also included. Empirical analysis of the relationship between imported energy and inflation rates for the period 2004-2019 has been made using the Johansen Cointegration technique. Accordingly, a long-term relationship was found between the two variables.
